TYLER (KYTX) - Outdoor grilling is on the agenda for many of us this holiday weekend. The staff and kitchen crew at Mooyah in Tyler show us how to make the perfect burger this July 4th.

First things first, start with a clean grill and clean hands. Now, we're ready to get started.

Mooyah general manager Lacey Steakley says you can make the cooking process smoother by prepping your buns first. She says grilling them is key for taste and texture.

"It just makes the bun a little bit more firm, instead of the bread being squishy, especially if you put a lot of condiments on it. "

Steakley recommends putting your sauces on the bun first, so the condiments stick to them. Start with lettuce

"We just kind of pull it apart in a cupping way so it holds everything."

"Alright, so we're going to put down the meat."

Head cook Steven Ortiz keeps his grill at about 350 degrees. He cooks the meat for about a minute to a minute and a half on each side. Don't forget to season it up with salt, pepper and garlic.

"You're going to see the brown stuff on the bottom or when the top turngrayey."

Now it's time to flip it.

Ortiz says you should allow at least 20 seconds for the cheese to melt before you put it on the bun. He likes pepperjack.

"My favorite." he says. "And, there goes your perfect burger."

Oh, and of course no cookout is complete without dessert.

Lexa Arante likes ice cream shakes to go with burgers and fries.

"Summer nights, July 4th. It's hot. You want something cold. A shake is perfect. she says. "And, voila!"

Bon apetite, East Texas!
