New Veterans Memorial Unveiled in Hewitt

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) -- The City of Hewitt unveiled a new veteran's memorial in Hewitt park this morning.

VFW Post 6,008 funded the monument.

It includes the post's logo as well as an American Flag engraving with a tribute to our military heroes.

It's a good reminder on our Nation's birthday.

"It's kind of nice to see that they show a little pride in the country and everything, bringing it out here," said veteran Cody De La Rosa.

"Cause this isn't actually a huge community, but it's a nice smaller community and to see something like this is really nice."

Evan Bates of Hewitt said the memorial is a reminder to him of all of our nation's veterans.

"It's a lot like when you see a service man or woman," said Bates. "It's a reminder no matter how big or how small, that they're there on the front lines helping us."

Around the granite memorial there are metal plates of the five branches of the Armed Forces at the corners of a pentagon base.

An American flag flies high above the monument.
