Fundraiser Held for Drowning Victim

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) -- Less than a week after a 12-year-old boy drowned at BSR Cable Park the wakeboard park threw a fundraiser today for him.

All of the donations from the barbecue and bake-sale are going to the funeral expenses for 12-year-old Sirmuel Calhoun.

Calhoun was at the park last Saturday with his family when he went missing.

After several hours of searching, the 12-year-old's body was discovered in the "Fun Lake," an area separate from the cable park.

Since the drowning, the Fun Lake has remained closed.

And while the tragedy is still on the minds of many BSR guests and employees, the staff hopes today's fundraiser is the first step in the healing process.

"We want them to know that we genuinely care and we want everyone to come out here and have a great time every time they're out here," said BSR employee Alexis Sharp.

The park couldn't say how much money has been raised so far but they did say that attendees have been incredibly generous.
