Shreveport man dies in Longview wreck

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A Shreveport man is dead following a one-vehicle collision early Sunday morning in North Longview.

According to Gregg County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Arthur Fort, the vehicle was traveling north on McCann Road at a high rate of speed when the driver apparently lost control. The vehicle hit a guardrail before colliding with a tree in front of Longview fire station No. 6 just before before 2 a.m.

Fort says the driver, 26-year-old Scorpio Atkins, of Shreveport, was killed at the scene. He says family members say Atkins had been drinking at a party and was asked not to drive, but drove away from the party anyway.

Moments later, family members say they heard fire truck sirens sounding from nearby and rushed to the scene.

A few hours later, Longview fire and EMS responded to another vehicle wreck -- this time on Fourth Street at Hollybrook Drive, just after 7 a.m. At least one person was taken to a local hospital.
