Health Alert: 18% of high school seniors smoke Hookah

Posted: Updated:
(CBS) -  A new study shows nearly one in five -- or 18% of US high school seniors - use hookahs.  Hookah is a method of smoking where smoke is passed through water before it's inhaled through a pipe.  Researchers at New York University found students from higher socioeconomic households are more likely to smoke hookah, as are students who've previously smoked cigarettes or marijuana.

(CBS) -  Researchers have discovered and genetically mapped at least 500 previously unknown microorganisms and 800 bacterial viruses that live in our intestines. Scientists in Denmark developed a new way to analyze DNA to reach their findings. They hope the information will help develop new ways to treat a number of diseases.

(CBS) - A new study finds newborns around the world are surprisingly similar in size as long as they are born to mothers who are healthy, educated and who had good prenatal care. University of Oxford researchers monitored 60,000 pregnancies worldwide. They found poor nutrition and health -- not race or ethnicity -- cause most of the disparities in newborn size.
