Police arrest Kilgore man suspected in multiple car burglaries

KILGORE (KYTX) – Police have arrested a person they believe responsible for multiple car thefts in the Kilgore area.

Police report about 12:41am, Saturday, officers responded to a call in the 800 block of Monroe Street about a person walking into a garage and entering vehicles.

As an officer approached the area he observed a person running away from the area they knew as Lechell Deke Scott.

Scott was known to police to have committed other car burglaries in the past and he matched witness descriptions as the person observed burglarizing vehicles.

Deke Scott was detained, and police located some of the stolen property in Scott’s pockets.

Further investigation revealed Deke Scott had burglarized multiple vehicles and attempted to burglarize others in the area of Monroe Street. One witness told police they saw Scott walking down the street attempting to enter various vehicles by trying the door handles.

Lechell Deke Scott was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Vehicle with 2 or more previous convictions a State Jail Felony. He is currently being held in the Kilgore Municipal Jail with a bond set at $15,000.

Police remind residents, this car burglary method of entering unlocked vehicles is the most common. Please lock your vehicles and remove all valuables.
