Business News: NHTSA investigating GM recalls

TYLER (KYTX)- A few weeks ago we shared with you that CBS 19's parent company had been sold to media giant Gannett, the owner of USA today and more than forty television stations.  It's official, we are a part of the Gannett family.  What this means to you is a stronger commitment and more resources to bring you the most comprehensive, compelling and meaningful news you can get.

(CNN)- General Motors has recalled more than 25 million vehicles in the U.S. this year, but the automaker has resisted recalling even more.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been investigating corrosion related brake failure in full sized trucks and SUV's since 2010.  The issue affects millions of vehicles from 1999 to 2003 model years. General Motors has told regulators the rusted brake lines are a maintenance issue, but affected vehicles would still be capable of stopping.

(CNN)- Americans are not stockpiling assault rifles like they used to, which is why gun sales have fallen sharply from a year ago.  CRT research says sales dropped 7.6 percent through the end of June, compared to the first half of last year.  Gun enthusiasts apparently are not as worried about new federal gun restrictions going into effect, the way they were in 2013.  Gun makers say while rifle sales are dropping, handguns sales are climbing.
