BELLEVUE, Neb., July 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Mead, the alcoholic beverage made from honey, may be the world's oldest fermented drink, it's now creating a buzz throughout the world! According to the World Association of Writers and Journalist of Wines and Spirits (WAWWJ) they ranked USA's Moonstruck Meadery at No. 1 of 100, Best of the World for Capsumel, pepper mead.

Mead has a history that goes back 8,000 years. It’s believed to be the world’s oldest alcoholic drink. It’s a fermented beverage made from honey, water and yeast.

Every year the WAWWJ classify wines and wineries that participate in different wine contests held around the world. All results of the various contests are published.  Their products are evaluated anonymously in 75 International Wine contests in 5 continents by the best specialists.

Moonstruck Meadery comes in first for its unique pepper mead, Capsumel.  Capsumel has traveled the world from the United States to Argentina, Israel, and Ukraine. Each competition brought the unique beverage awards of double gold and gold medals.

Moonstruck Meadery claims its Capsumel (pepper mead), has a nose of fresh pepper garden with a harmonious blend of Serrano, Jalapeno, and Anaheim peppers. It has a very unique taste.  Moonstruck is very grateful to be recognized as the world's first place mead from professional judges of the world.

Chris Webber, President of the American Mead Makers Association (AMMA), is excited for the growth. "The American mead industry is growing by leaps and bounds, and we can't wait to see what the future holds."  UC Davis is recognizing the opportunity of mead, "UC Davis is offering Introduction to Mead Making, a two day program geared to those interested in starting to make mead scheduled for Nov. 15 & 16," says Amina Harris, Director, Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science.

"We have a passion about mead, and Capsumel is a direct result of that," stated Brian Schlueter, owner of Moonstruck Meadery. "Mead is exploding in popularity, it's truly the new delicious flavor people are looking for, one taste is all it takes," commented Schlueter, "It directly helps the bees, the farmers, the foods we eat, we are very grateful to produce mead and looking forward to expanding our distribution so that others may enjoy this unique beverage from long ago."
