Children in US illegally could be housed in Crockett State School

Posted: Updated:

CROCKETT (KYTX) - The Crockett State School could soon be a new housing location for children who have entered the country illegally.

The Crockett economic development director Thom Lambert said, the facility is used now to house juvenile offenders. As of right now, the federal government and the lease-holders are in negotiations to decide if the children will make Crockett their temporary home.

The set-up of the school can currently hold up to 300 people. However, the facility is also suited to be able to house even more. Currently with no changes made, the facility has 101 beds.

If the negotiation go through, it could create multiple jobs since more people will be needed to provide services to the children who will come.

There is no word yet, on when a deal could go through, however Lambert said if it does, the juvenile children currently housed there, would be separate from the children brought in by the federal government.
