DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Grapevine Police have confirmed that Rangers catcher Geovany Soto was arrested Wednesday night in Grapevine on a marijuana possession charge.

Sergeant Robert Eberling says Soto has been charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana under 2 ounces.

Soto, 31, was arrested during a traffic stop around 10 p.m. in the 3500 block of Ira E. Woods Avenue. He posted bail at $500 and is free.

Texas resigned the Puerto Rico native to a one-year deal worth roughly $3.05 million prior to the season.

He has not played in a game this season after suffering a tear to his right knee in March.

Soto has appeared in six rehab games and is expected to rejoin the team sometime after the All Star break.

In 54 games last season, Soto hit .245 with nine home runs and 22 RBIs.
