Kilgore seeing significant growth, other Gregg Co. cities' growth slowing

Posted: Updated:
LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Longview and Gregg County are growing, just not as quickly. That's the message from estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
"You look over Longview's history, especially in the last ten or 20 years, and what you've seen is slow, steady growth - not growing by leaps and bounds at one time, but just that slow, steady growth, and that's with regards to our economy as well as our population," City of Longview Public Information Officer Shawn Hara says.

When the last census was taken four years ago, more than 80,000 people said they lived in Longview, growing nearly 10 percent from 2000. But between 2010 and 2013, Longview's growth has slowed to 1.2 percent, And four other towns in Gregg County - White Oak, Lakeport, Easton and Clarksville City - are all seeing declines in their population. But not everywhere. Kilgore is now one of East Texas' fastest growing cities.

Kilgore's estimated population has increased 12 percent to more than 14,000 people.
