TYLER (KYTX) - The hunt continues for a hit and run driver who killed a man on loop 323 Monday night.  There was one witness and no usable description of the vehicle that ran over 23-year-old Kenneth Linnel Jones, Jr.

It was about 10:30pm when a man paying for gas realized jones was in the middle of the northwest loop near van highway.

"He came outside, he heard a thud and then he came back in and told me to call 911, said someone had been hit," Leah Broomfield said.

Broomfield, who was at work at the time, came out from behind the counter. She said the scene was awful.

"Yes it was. It really shook me up bad," she said. "Because I don't understand anybody that just could be a human being and hit another human being and leave them laying there."

Jones' great aunt Glenda Dixon wants answers.

"I know someone saw something," Dixon said. "So if somebody has information, just come and tell something."

As far as she's concerned, it's a busy stretch of road filled with potential witnesses.

"Surely someone saw who hit him," Dixon said.

Tyler Police are also hoping for a tip on who hit Jones and then sped off. Officer Don Martin said Jones' death is a reminder for people who walk to cross at marked intersections--and for drivers to remember that stopping to render aid is not optional.

"If the driver had remained at the scene, more than likely nothing would have happened to the driver due to the fact that really the pedestrian was at fault for crossing at an un-controlled intersection," Martin said.

"And whoever ran over KJ needs to come forward and fess up to it," Dixon said.
