Business News: Microsoft to layoff thousands

(CNN)- The New York Times reports Microsoft will announce the largest layoff in its history, today. The Times reports that it spoke with several people briefed on the decision, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Cuts would substantially surpass Microsoft's largest layoff to date, nearly six thousand people in 2009. Microsoft has 125 thousand employees. A Microsoft spokesman declined to comment on the times report.

(CNN)- Flyers hate paying those bag-check and other fees, but airlines love collecting them.  A new survey found airlines worldwide brought in 31-and-a-half billion dollars in revenue from fees last year.  That is more than 11 times their non-ticket revenue just six years earlier, adjusted for inflation.  But there are some caveats.  Part of the increase is due to awareness, more airlines are breaking out non-ticket revenue in their financial reports.  The 2013 data includes 59 airlines, while the 2007 snapshot counted only 23.
