LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A trial date is set in a Longview's woman's federal lawsuit against Gregg County, after her son died in its jail.

Jury selection is scheduled February 9 in Tyler in the case of Betty Madewell versus the county.
Her son, Bobby Madewell, was an inmate at Gregg County Jail on March 21, 2013, when he was found unresponsive in a separation cell.
He was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Attorneys for Madewell say he was denied his prescribed pain medication, which led to life-threatening withdrawal symptoms.

And last Thursday, a federal magistrate judge extended mediation in another lawsuit involving the Gregg County Jail.
Harold Hagler of Gilmer was a Gregg County Jail inmate in August 2011, when he reported pain in his midsection to jail staff.
According to his lawsuit, he was taken to a local hospital six days later, and must now wear a colostomy bag for the rest of his life.

A judge has moved up the mediation deadline from this past Saturday, to Sept. 30. A trial date in Hagler's case has not been set.
