SAN ANTONIO -- The city of San Antonio is taking another chance at landing a professional football team in the 21-year-old Alamodome.

Multiple city leaders told KENS 5 that executives from the Oakland Raiders have been in San Antonio to discuss moving the team to South Texas.

In a statement released to KENS 5 Tuesday, City Manager Sheryl Sculley said:
"Oakland Raiders officials were in San Antonio in July to attend the Prairie View Interscholastic League Hall of Fame induction of Cliff Branch and met with community representatives regarding the possible use of the Alamodome for future NFL games and potential relocation of the Oakland Raiders from Oakland, California to San Antonio. These discussions are in a very preliminary stage."
According to former San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros, the Raiders have serious lease issues in the Bay Area. The Raiders' lease with the Oakland County Coliseum is set to expire after the 2014 season.

Cisneros said Raiders owner Mark Davis visited San Antonio in July for a Hall of Fame induction for former Raider, Cliff Branch.

While Davis was visiting, Cisneros said that city leaders took him on a courtesy visit to key facilities around the city. "We showed them key facilities in town, took them on a courtesy visit, and provided them with an option," said Cisneros.

Cisneros said they were simply providing an option for the Raiders, should a move arise in the future.

The NFL had no comment other than saying it's received no applications for relocation.

Davis also remained fairly reticent to discuss the visit when asked for a statement Tuesday. "Former San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros is a friend, and Henry suggested I take the opportunity to meet with some of the city officials while we were in town," said Davis. "I have nothing further to discuss on the topic."
