HOUSTON (KHOU) -- Street flooding was reported across the Houston area overnight as slow-moving heavy downpours swept through Southeast Texas.

High water was reported along Beltway 8-North near the Eastex Freeway, Beechnut at 59, and 59 at the Spur 527. Dozens of vehicles were flooded in midtown alone, police reported.

At one condo complex along Louisiana near the Spur 527, at least 100 vehicles were flooded on the first level of a parking garage.

The worst of the flooding in downtown and midtown was reported around 2 a.m. By 4:30 a.m. the water had receded but the lights were still out at many intersections, and many vehicles still blocked nearby roads.

In Humble, high water cut off roads and appeared to creep into some businesses even as of 5 a.m.

KHOU 11 News Meteorologist Chita Johnson said there's still a 40-percent chance for rain Friday, but the heaviest showers were moving out before sunrise. We'll only see light, scattered showers for the rest of the day. This is good news since many bayous are already full.

The heavy rain was caused by a front that has moved through, leaving us with daytime temps in only the mid-80s this afternoon.
