Health Alert: Benefits to playing video games

(CBS)- Playing video games may not be so bad for children, after all.  A new study shows playing games for less than an hour a day can actually help children dealing with hyperactivity, and understanding peer relationships and empathy.  But British researchers found these benefits went away, and even turned negative when children play computer and console games for more than 3 hours a day.

(CBS)- One in three children are at risk for developing serious complications of the flu this season.  Research in the Journal 'Pediatrics' finds that while many children show flu symptoms during peak flu season, 35 percent can develop serious complications, including pneumonia.  Those most at risk are children with neurological and neuromuscular conditions, but 40 percent have no underlying conditions.

(CBS)- If you are worried about red meat increasing your risk of colorectal cancer, you might find some help a little farther down the picnic table.  A study in "Cancer Prevention Research" suggests that so-called "resistant starch" in some foods can reduce levels of molecules linked to cancer.  "Resistant starch" can be found in foods like lentils, beans and cooked-then-cooled potatoes -- including potato salad.
