Village at Cumberland Park shopping center set to open this fall

Posted: Updated:
TYLER (KYTX)-Phase one of the Village at Cumberland Park is set to open this fall bringing restaurants and stores like Nebraska based Gordmans.

"Were a retailer that brings a better place to shop in Texas. We have home decor and apparel for all ages and we bring a discount off of national retailers of up to 60 percent and we pride ourselves in excellent guest service," Store Manager Cindy Spink said.

At its completion, the shopping center will cover 80 acres and more than 700 thousand square feet. Gordmans store manager Cindy Spink has lived in Tyler before and is amazed by the growth.

"I lived here 6 years ago and to come back and see all the new, different stores and retailers and shops and restaurants its outstanding and having this new shopping center come to town is just phenomenal for the community," Spink said.

Gordmans is looking to hire 100 people and other stores like Ross and TJ Maxx are hiring as well. Village at Cumberland Place developer Matt Wilson says Tyler was an obvious choice for the center because of the growth.

"With the success that we've had with the shopping center it's obvious there was a need out here. Tyler definitely needed to develop a center like this," Wilson said.

Developers say they are not only looking for the big retail stores like Gordmans and TJ Maxx, they are hoping that some local businesses will also come and be apart of this new shopping center.

"Most of these groups are national brands and great retailers and we still want to encourage those local tenants to come join us. We have a handful that were working with but still wed love those local Tyler tenants to come in eventually, fill some of the space," Wilson said.

The first phase of grand openings will begin in September and continue through the fall.
