Consumer Corner: Dorm Outfitting

Posted: Updated:
(CNN/CBS) -    The days of the paper checklist are over for college students.  Social media, and even online registries, are stepping up the style in dorm rooms.

It's not a surprising source of inspiration, since students use social media for just about everything else. The company Dormify grew out of that active social space.

A shortage of stylish XL sheets inspired mom and daughter Karen and Amanda Zuckerman to launch their e-commerce venture, where students share their small, savvy space.

The site features the most practical dorm items, with a softer side.

Dorm registries are an  idea that big box retailers, like the Container Store and Target have embraced too, as students build their home, away from home.

A quarter of a million dollars... That's how much it costs to raise a child! Though many parents would say the experience is priceless.

A new report from the USDA shows a middle income husband-wife family with a young child today, will spend more than $245,000 on that child before they turn 18.

Housing is the biggest expense, making up roughly 30% of the total cost of raising a child. Child care and school expenses are around 18%. And, 16% is spent on food.

Fast food fans rejoice! Burger King is serving chicken fries once again.

The fry-shaped chicken morsels were first introduced back in 2005, but BK took them off the menu in 2012.

The fries were so popular, they even inspired multiple social media campaigns, asking Burger King to bring them back. Burger King says on peak days, it has seen a tweet every 40 seconds about chicken fries.

Don't get too excited, the return of the chicken fries isn't permanent. Burger King says it will only sell them for a limited time.
