Event Will Support Students Locally and Statewide, Providing Them With the Tools and Support They Need to Succeed In School and In Life

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) August 27, 2014

The Pacific NW office of UNCF (United Negro College Fund) will step out for students at its UNCF Walk, Run, Bike For Education on August 30, 2014 in Seattle at Edwin T. Pratt Park. The event is a celebration of education that will bring together community supporters to raise vitally needed funds to help students get to and through college.

In todays economy, students need a college education more than ever to compete and succeed, and we as a country need them to have that education, said Michael L. Lomax, Ph.D., president and CEO, UNCF. By investing in our students now, we are providing them with a path to success that will pay future dividends for them, for their families and communities, and for all of us.

Participants can walk or run a 5K course or bike a 10K course starting at Pratt Park. Members of the community are invited to support UNCF and its students by forming a team or registering as individuals. All teams will be entered in the Team Challenge for a chance to win tickets on Alaska Airlines. This years event goal is to raise $100,000, which will support students in the Pacific Northwest.

We invite everyone in our community to come out not only to support our students, but also to encourage a healthy lifestyle. said Lacie West, UNCF Area Development Director. By supporting them now, we are giving them the education and preparation they need to have successful, secure financial futures and become the next generation of college-educated professionals, good citizens and effective community leaders.

The event day will also feature the UNCF BBQ Cook-off, where amateur grill masters will compete in a BBQ Cook-Off to earn the title of 2014 UNCF Cook-Off Grill Master and a brand new BBQ grill; and UNCF Kids Happy Hour, where free turkey hot dogs/burgers and school backpacks will be available for kids under 18 years of age. Other events include a fitness challenge and bike rodeo for kids ages 6-14.
