90 Day Challenge: Gillian's Last Weigh-in

Final Weigh-In Final Weigh-In

Our 90 Day Fitness Challenge at XTC Fitness & Sports is over. Now, the real-life challenge begins of maintaining our results. These past three months have been exhausting, exhilarating and eye-opening. Tony Cruz pushed me much further than I could have ever gone on my own and, honestly, further than I ever thought I could go. I couldn't be happier with the end results!

In 90 days, I lost 24 pounds and more than 20 inches, more than 8 inches of that was in my waist alone. I feel so much better and have a lot more energy.

As I ponder the last three months, I have learned a lot from Tony about losing and maintaining weight loss. Although I still have a lot to learn, I want to share a few things that have resonated with me and that I have now adopted into my lifestyle.

First, just get moving! It is hard to start, but easy to keep going as you begin to feel and look better. I learned once you are moving, you have to change it up. If you do the same exercises all the time, your body gets used to it and the results aren't as good. Tony is an expert at this and always kept us, and our bodies, guessing.

Increasing the amount of water you drink throughout the day is critical. Although 8, 8 oz glasses of water are recommended,Tony encouraged us to drink more. I did, and it worked! I drank water all the time and still do. Hydration is key to weight loss as well.

Exercise without changing your diet is almost a waste of time. Fitness experts say that loosing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise. I now believe that, and it's not hard if you will just plan ahead. Planning meals and snacks is what prevents you from going through the fast food drive-thru or heading to the vending machine. I discovered that eating a well-balanced diet not only fuels the body and helps build muscle, but it made me feel better overall - no more highs and lows from grabbing a sugary snack. However, I do want to stress that it's not about depriving yourself of a treat from time-to-time or having a burger or slice of pizza. It's about consistency and moderation, with an occasional celebration meal or dessert.

I have now incorporated my new healthy eating habits into my lifestyle and will continue to exercise at XTC Fitness & Sports. I am a perfect example of a busy, middle-aged woman with two kids who had put exercise on the back burner. I feel fortunate and grateful for this opportunity to transform not only my body, but my attitude about a healthy lifestyle.  It was not an easy journey, but I'm sure glad I did it!  The hard work was worth it.

A special thank you to Tony Cruz at XTC Fitness & Sports for his time and dedication in helping us meet our goals in this amazing transformation. Also, a big thank you to Kyna Clendenin, Owner/Operator of Let's Cook Tyler, for all the delicious healthy meals she prepared for us the past 90 days. She taught us about portion control, eating lean meats and vegetables and healthy snacks. Without the partnership of Tony and Kyna it would have been near impossible to achieve our goals. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart... which now sits above my thinner waist!
