Web Exclusive: New Balance unveils military sneaker prototype

Posted: Updated:

(CBS/CNN) - New Balance could be making over the military boot camp sneaker. The Massachusetts-based shoe maker unveiled the sneaker prototype.  The design is based on the company's ultra marathon shoe, but durable to withstand any terrain and made entirely in the united states. It comes as the Defense Department is changing its policy providing new recruits with American-made athletic shoes instead of an allowance to buy foreign made shoes.

All eyes are on Apple.  The company's stock reached a 52 week high before the Labor Day holiday.  This is in anticipation of its new product launch on September 9th at its Cupertino headquarters.  Reports are the tech giant will unveil an iPhone 6 that will have a bigger screen than current models available.  Apple may also launch its first ever smartwatch at the event.

Luck has run out for another Atlantic City casino. The hotel at the "Revel" closed Monday afternoon and its casino will close today.  The two year old, $2.4 billion dollar casino is the second to close this week, and the third this year. The Trump Plaza will shut its doors in two weeks, meaning four of the city's 12 casinos and 8,000 jobs will be gone.

Labor day traditionally means the end of summer. And while beach season may be drawing to a close, fall offers plenty of opportunities to hit the road or take to the skies without the crowds.  It's less expensive, too. According to Trip Advisor, top fall destinations include New York, Boston, Orlando, Las Vegas and San Francisco.  Two East Coast cities top that list.  It's a region where Fall foliage is a prime attraction. Also, some good news if you want to take a weekend road trip gas prices should drop even lower in late September.
