Tyler Police warn of scam targeting local businesses

Tyler Police are warning of a new scam. They say scammers have started targeting local businesses, which investigators have not seen before.

The suspects call the store reporting to be in upper management or loss prevention and convince an unwitting employee that they need to send money to handle a claim of someone falling in the store or something similar.

They then instruct the employee to Western Union money or the typical gift card scam from the stores cash. They keep the employee on the phone and walk them through the process.

Please ask for a name and number and inform them that you will return the call once you have looked into the claim. Contact your internal management to verify the information.
