UT Tyler is proudly showcasing its new blue logo and is looking to be a part of the NCAA second division in sports. President Michael Tidwell said the purpose for rebranding is to make sure the 'entire university is considered the leading economic and education driver for all of East Texas'.
These changes were an effort involving staff members, students and alumni. Tidwell said there is a 50 point initiative plan such as: graduate student workshops and student service training. He said when a new plan is placed, the brand of the institution needs refreshing.
"Our UT Tyler has been in place for the last 20 years," Tidwell said.
The university president said their strategic plan incorporates student success and engagement, community engagement, expansion of student research activities and impactful events in communities.
There's also talk of a new mascot in 2019, however, Swoop the Eagle isn't leaving for the time being.
