Marangeli Lopez is the co-anchor of CBS19 News at 5, 6, 6:30 and 10.
Marangeli joined the team in October 2020, eager to come back home and tell stories about East Texas. She is originally from Puerto Rico but grew up in Forney, so she considers herself a proud Texan!
Previously, Marangeli worked in Albany, New York. She was an asset to the team and learned a variety of skills behind the scenes. She directed the morning newscasts and worked with anchors, producers and reporters to ensure a seamless daily product. She worked as a digital producer, writing breaking news and feature stories for online platforms. She also spent time working on the assignment desk confirming breaking news stories and sending reporters and photographers into the field.
She served as multimedia editor for The Shorthorn Newspaper and won a national award for excellence in multimedia storytelling from the Associated Collegiate Press.
Marangeli graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Communication, and a minor in Critical Languages and International Studies with a focus on the German language. She is fluent in both Spanish and English and has a certificate of proficiency in the German language.
She was selected as a Chips Quinn Scholar for the Class of 2018 — a competitive program that provides training and support to journalists of color. Its aim is to bring greater diversity to the newsrooms of the United States.
Passionate about health and fitness, you can usually find Marangeli working out at one of the many parks East Texas has to offer. She'll be the one carrying the giant, blue gallon-water bottle! She loves boot camp-style classes and high-intensity interval training.
Marangeli is passionate about journalism and telling stories. She believes everyone has a purpose and a story to tell, and it's her duty as a journalist to tell it.
She believes every day is an opportunity to learn something new and to engage with her audience.
