Mateo Gamboa is a News Director with a passion for teaching young journalists the foundational skills that will carry on throughout their careers. In his time at CBS19, Gamboa has led his team to dominant performances during breaking news and severe weather. Additionally, his direction led to a 2022 Lone Star Emmy nomination for Best Evening Newscast in the small market category.

Before joining CBS19 in 2021, Gamboa was the Senior Producer at TEGNA’s flagship station in Dallas, WFAA, where he organized large-scale news projects and specials like The Dallas Mayoral Debate, 7/7 A City Remembers, The Billion Dollar Storm, and La Vida. Gamboa also played a key role in transforming the Daybreak morning news program at WFAA, establishing a successful model that was adopted company wide. Gamboa previously produced newscasts at KXAS in Dallas/Fort Worth and KCEN in Waco/Temple/Killeen. Gamboa is a graduate of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where he pioneered the website for the student newspaper, The Bells.

Gamboa was born and raised in the Texas Panhandle, where he met his high school sweetheart, Anna Gamboa. Together they are raising their 3-year-old daughter Juliana and 10-month-old son Witten. In his free time, Gamboa enjoys home improvement projects, traveling, and hosting barbecues.
