Longview elementary students take part in mock presidential election

First through fifth graders received a lesson in elections and voting.

LONGVIEW, Texas — Hudson PEP Elementary students took part in a mock presidential election Tuesday.

"The actual process from signing in to going to a private computer," counselor Amanda Vallery said.

First through fifth graders lined up in the school cafeteria to cast their vote and received an "I VOTED" sticker.

"It feels like I have a pretty big purpose in life and that my voice is heard," fifth grader Laylah Rosemond.

The students aldo had the chance to see the tabulated votes on a live screen.

"I learned it's really close a lot," fifth grader Grayson Minshew said.

Poll workers helped guide the voters their voting booths.

"it means a lot," Minshew said. "It's just fun having to be able to right the to vote."

Perhaps the bigger lesson is what many of us forget as we get older.

"Teaching them that they can have a voice and on the other side of that respecting everybody's [vote]," Vallery said. "You shouldn't judge others based on what they vote because we all have different opinions."
