Robert E. Lee student to represent Texas at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Robert E. Lee High School senior, Elizabeth Boynton, will march with the Great American Marching Band at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

TYLER, Texas — This Thanksgiving Holiday, a student at Robert E. Lee High School will represent Texas in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York City. 

Elizabeth Boynton, a senior at Lee auditioned for the Great American Marching Band after seeing their performance on television last year. 

"I saw a band made up of high schoolers' on there and I found out you just have to audition for it," Elizabeth said. 

According to Music Festivals, the Great American Marching Band honors American's finest high school musicians, compromised of select students from across the United States.

"I'm just so happy for her," Robert E. Lee Band Director Sam Labordus said. "It's something that people aspire to do and they're not going to get an opportunity to and she does. She's going to be in the biggest parade in the United States."

"Anybody can do this. It's just a really fun opportunity," Elizabeth said. "You just have to put yourself out there and believe that you can do it, and you can do some really amazing stuff."

Elizabeth leaves to New York City on Saturday November 23. That day also happens to be her 18th birthday.
