Buy a ticket, get a surprise: 15 pop-up concerts are coming to DFW

Guests who buy a ticket have no idea who’s performing, what they’re playing or where they’re playing.

DALLAS — More than a dozen concerts are scheduled for Dallas-Fort Worth through September, and no one has any idea where they are or who’s performing.

Those details are a surprise.

“They are a surprise,” said Esther Calloway, who works as the regional operations manager for artist booking for central North America for a company called Sofar Sounds.

The concerts put on by Sofar Sounds are top secret.

Guests who buy a ticket have no idea who’s performing, what they’re playing or where they’re playing.

“The first time our guests are hearing of this artist is when they step on the stage to perform,” Calloway said.

The point of doing this is to make concerts more intimate. Typically, less than 100 tickets are sold.

Instead of being in big arenas, shows are often in book stores, art galleries or on rooftops.

The concert’s location is typically released 36 hours before the show.

Most shows feature local artists whose careers are about to take off.

People like Leon Bridges and Billie Eilish have performed in these surprise concerts.

These concerts give guests a chance to be up close and personal with the next big thing.

“The point is to really bring magic to discovering new music and talent,” Calloway said.
