Free prom dress event happening Saturday at the 'Hub'

With prom season approaching, two East Texas groups are having events to help girls find their dream prom dresses for free.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — Prom season is upon us and it is time for girls to start the search for their dream dress.

"It's a big event and everybody wants to look their best on prom night," Brooke Reynolds said.

After being a bridesmaid in multiple weddings, Reynolds wanted to donate them, but ended up creating the group Sisterhood of the Traveling Dresses.

"So I went to school in Chapel Hill and I graduated there," Reynolds explained. "So I kind of wanted to incorporate Chapel Hill more."

On Saturday, girls will be able to go through the dresses Reynolds has collected and choose one for no cost at the Chapel Hill High School.

"Hopefully they'll find the dress, try it on, it'll fit perfect," Reynolds said. "I think we're honestly pushing like maybe 180, 200 dresses."

For those in the Tyler area, the Glam Prom Dress Closet is gearing up for its fourth prom dress expo on March 30.

"And you want it to be special and so that's what we do is we create a shopping experience for each girl," said Toyia Jordan, the creator of the Glam Prom Dress Closet.

That event will start at 10 a.m. at "The Hub" at 304 East Ferguson Street in Tyler.

There will be vendors at the expo giving away free goodies and tips for the girls.

Both events are also allowing the high schoolers to pick out jewelry and shoes to complete the prom ensemble.
