Gas prices rising are having an impact on local delivery businesses

Several delivery businesses in Tyler are feeling the sting from rising gas prices such as florist, food delivery, and moving companies.

TYLER, Texas — Gas prices are making an economic impact across the nation.

According to GasBuddy data, the U.S. national average hit a new all-time record of $4.10.

"We need to drill more oil here and not import it," Julia Hassell, owner of Forget Me Not Flowers and Gifts said.

As Russia continues to invade the Ukraine, Tyler businesses are feeling the impact.

"At this present time, we're keeping our flower delivery prices the same," Hassell said. "I'm going to try to keep it the same as long as I possibly can. But, I'm sure eventually at some point, it will have to go up a little bit."

Flower deliveries aren’t the only services being impacted.

Food delivery along with moving companies are having to raise their rates.

"It's just what's going on in the world," Henrietta Holt, owner of ICANN Moving Company said. "You know, I'm just happy that all I have to worry about right now is the gas prices and not what a lot more other people have to be worried about right now."

A statement sent by Elite Moving Company said, "Due to the registered voters decisions and the rise of inflation all services we render are seeing a price increase, especially in fuel cost. Voted 'Best in Town' Elite Moving is doing everything we can to alert our clients to the market shifts. We are currently charging less than competitors in the local East Texas market. We are booking two months in advance and will continue to give our utmost efforts to alert our clients to the extremely volatile economic changes during these unusual and unstable times."

“Changes,” a word every business is seeing.

"Hopefully will go up no more than a couple of dollars per delivery," Hassell said. "We try to group them together where if we have several deliveries in the same area, then that helps cut down the cost of gas also."
