TYLER TEXAS — A new metal sculpture along the Rose Rudman Trail proclaims "May peace prevail on Earth" in Arabic, English, French and Spanish.

The 14-foot tall peace pole was unveiled Friday by the Art of Peace committee and coincided with the United Nations International Day of Peace.

Art of Peace is a weeklong series of events in Tyler that aim to promote peace.

Committee member Kerian Massey designed the peace pole and collaborated with metal artist Diane Billingsly to make it. The project was funded by Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Tyler.

"I've been to several of the peace pole installations," said Mike Klug, of Tyler, who has attended Unitarian Universalist Fellowship for about a decade. "It's important that we celebrate peace on Earth, and that peace prevails everywhere."

Anne McCrady, a founder of Art of Peace, ended the event by asking attendees to spend 30 seconds in silence to focus on their own peace intention. Attendees asked for peace for neighbors, families, hospitals and places of worship.
