What: East Texas Food "Ride" and Rally Benefitting the East Texas Food Bank
When: 9 a.m. to noon Saturday through 11 a.m. Monday
Where: T.B. Butler Fountain Plaza in downtown Tyler to Memorial Cemetery, 12053 Texas Highway 64
Event details: Motorcyclists from the 42 Taillights Motorcycle Club are having their 13th annual Spring Thing motorcycle rally Saturday featuring a food ride and rally to benefit the East Texas Food Bank. Non-Perishable foods can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday in front of the Smith County Courthouse. Armbands can be purchased for the motorcycle rally for $10 with a minimum $5 food donation or for a $15 donation.
The ride to the East Texas Food Bank begins at noon. There will be music, and other family friendly activities from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the T.B. Butler Fountain Plaza in downtown Tyler.
Gates open for the rally open at noon on Saturday at 22053 County Road 2147 in Troup.
The event offers music, vendors, camping, silent auctions, raffles games for bikers and kids including "dodge balloon."
There will be a church service on Sunday at 11 a.m.
The group will ride back to Tyler beginning at 7 a.m. Monday. They will meet in downtown Tyler at 9 a.m. for the Memorial Day Ride Parade that begins at 10 a.m.
There will be entertainment, free hot dogs, chips and drinks and speeches from local and state government officials.
The group will ride out to the Tyler Memorial Cemetery for a ceremony to honor fallen service members, show respect for those who served and pray for those who are serving in the Armed Forces.
What: Heroes Hike
When: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday
Where: Rose Rudman Park
Event Details: The inaugural hike is a family friendly event featuring a 3K hike and a Tiny Troopers 1K hike for kids 13 and under. The hike is organized to raise awareness for veterans with PTSD.

What: Freedom in the Park and Car Show
When: 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday
Where: Whitehouse City Park
Event Details: The Whitehouse Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Freedom in the Park and Car Show features a car show, live music, bounce houses, kids activities and games, food, and fireworks. There will be free splash park admission from 2 to 6 p.m.
What: Memorial Day banquet and ceremony
When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday
Where: Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home
Event Details: The event will feature a catered lunch by Dickies Bar-B-Que, Harley M. Depue, U.S. Army (Retired) as the keynote speaker, a presentation of the colors and the playing of Taps on bagpipes.
What: Lindale Memorial Day Ceremony
When: 11 a.m. Monday
Where: Lindale Veterans Memorial and Love and War in Texas-Lindale
Event Details: The Lindale Veterans Memorial Committee and Lindale American Legion Post 15 is hosting a ceremony to honor fallen service members. Love and War in Texas-Lindane will host a reception after the ceremony.
What: Hawkins Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony
When: 2 p.m. Monday
Where: Veterans Memorial Park in Hawkins
Event Details: The Greater Hawkins Veterans Memorial Association is having its annual Memorial Day ceremony that will feature special music, a guest speaker and a roll call for veterans who have died during the past year.
CrossFit gyms throughout the area are hosting the workout named in memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in action in Afghanistan June 28, 2005.
The workout was Murphy's favorite, and it's now referred to as "Murph" in honor of the Navy SEAL.
The workout consists of a 1 mile-run followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats and followed up by another 1 mile-run.
The workout can be scaled to any ability and can be done in a team format.
