The City of Palestine issued a warning Wednesday of an attempted email scam in the area.
According to spokesperson Nate Smith, a network hack earlier in the year stole email contacts from the city email.
Now, some residents are reporting that they are receiving emails from supposed City employees, with a link to an invoice.
Smith warns to not click on the link, because it is a part of an email phishing scam the hackers are using to gather information.
The City of Palestine does not send invoices via email. All invoices and statements from the city are sent using regular mail. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working with our network technicians to prevent future issues.
