Police identify pregnant woman killed in Downtown Austin shooting

A 15-year-old has been arrested and charged with murder.

AUSTIN, Texas — Police have identified the victim killed in a shooting in Downtown Austin on Thursday, May 20.

The victim, Kaylin Price, 21, was approximately 16 weeks pregnant, the Austin Police Department said. A 15-year-old suspect has been charged with her murder.

A male victim was also shot and suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, police said.

APD said a call came in at approximately midnight for shots fired at Seventh Street and Interstate 35. Officers found blood in the area and cartridge cases but did not find victims at the scene.

While officers were responding, another shots-fired call came in from 18th and Colorado Streets, where officers found the two victims. Price was found unresponsive in the backseat of a dark sedan, police said. Austin-Travis County performed life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead on the scene around 12:20 a.m.

The male victim was taken to a local hospital.

Witnesses told investigators a known 15-year-old suspect fired shots from the passenger side of a car and fled the scene after a disturbance had occurred. Police said friends of Price attempted to drive her to a local hospital after the incident on Seventh Street, but stopped at 18th and Colorado streets to call 911 when they couldn't find the hospital.

The 15-year-old suspect was booked into the Gardner Betts Juvenile Justice Center.

It is the 32nd homicide of 2021, which is the same number of homicides for the entire year of 2018.

Anyone with any additional information on the incident is asked to contact police at 512-974-TIPS or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 512-472-8477.
