HOPKINS COUNTY, Texas — The Hopkins County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide that took place on Nov. 8.

According to the sheriff's office, a woman called the sheriff's office urging them to respond to her son's home. The woman said her daughter-in-law called her screaming for help.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Joshua Vaughn dead from a gunshot wound.

After launching an investigation, the sheriff's office identified James Kilgore as the suspect. Vaughn's family told investigators that Vaughn and Kilgore had been involved in altercations in the past, though it was believed they reconciled before the deadly shooting.

The HCSO says on Nov. 9, while searching for Kilgore, authorities found him dead from a gunshot wound. The sheriff's office did not say whether they believe Kilgore's death was suicide or homicide.

The case is still under investigation.
