HARRISON COUNTY, Texas — The Harrison County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide that occurred Thursday near the Louisiana state line.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a home on Boggy Road for a welfare check on a possible homicide victim around 11:30 a.m. Once inside, authorities discovered a black man who was dead with a single gunshot wound.

Officials say they spoke to a woman who had escaped after she was allegedly held hostage in Caddo Parrish, LA, by the suspected gunman.

According to the Caddo Parrish Sheriff's Office, there was hostage situation that unfolded around 10 a.m. near the Texas state line.

The sheriff's office says the suspect, 56-year-old James Salone, broke into his ex-girlfriend's home and took a woman and her children hostage.

The woman and the children ran the home when deputies arrived on the scene. The sheriff's office says shots were fired at deputies, as well as the woman and children, but there were no injuries.

CBS19 has not confirmed if the woman from the hostage situation is the woman Harrison County deputies spoke with in regards to the homicide.

The HCSO has not identified Salone as a suspect in their investigation.

Authorities say the investigation is in its early stages and they are working to gather more information.
