SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department made an arrest Wednesday in the arson case involving the Ingram Square Shopping Center fire that killed firefighter, Scott Deem.
The Bexar County District Attorney's Office said Emond Johnson was arrested in connection to the fire.
The night of the fire in May, Johnson identified himself to KENS 5 as the co-owner of The Spartan Box Gym which was damaged from the flames.
Following the fire, Johnson created a GoFundMe page to recover losses after the gym burned down.
“This fundraiser is for the everything that the Spartan box lost on May 18th in the fire at the Ingram Shopping center. As of right now the Spartan box owners and members are trying to rebuild,” the GoFundMe page states. “Any funds at this point can help us to go forward after this big tragedy. Please give what you can. Every penny counts. Thank you and Godbless.”
The GoFundMe raised a little over $2,400 of the $10,000 goal. According to the arrest document, of the $2,430 raised, all but $200.34 was withdrawn.
Documents showed that Johnson was the sole signatory to the lease space where the gym was located. At the time of the fire, Johnson was behind on rent of $6,865.28.
