TYLER, Texas — The East Texas Food Bank works with schools to distribute food to children with food insecurities through various programs.

One of those is their "Backpack Program."

The ETFB and their partners fill backpacks with various nutritious foods and distribute them to children at convenient locations throughout the area.

Dennis Cullinane, CEO of the ETFB, says they offer these programs in the summer and also spring break.

"For spring break, some of our backpack programs anticipate that and put a little bit of extra food in those backpacks," explained Cullinane, "In the event that you need more food, simply go to our website www.easttexasfoodbank.org, and click on the find food button, it will show you where your nearest pantry is."

Cullinane says the goal of initiatives like the "Backpack Program" are to fight generational poverty by keeping kids from being hungry in class and, as a result, helping them get a better education.
