Flint workout studio combines cat yoga and adoptions

Cat Yoga may not be your typical workout class, but a workout studio is hoping to change that by combining fitness and the chance to adopt cats needing a forever home.

FLINT, Texas — It's a workout class you don't see too often in East Texas: Cat yoga.

"It's mostly about the cats, a little bit about the yoga," Beth Lytle, owner of Fly and Love Yoga Lounge, said.

Cat yoga is a 60-minute class with your four-legged friends roaming around to cuddle and play with, according to the Lounge's website.

The class is offered 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

"We sit in a circle, we do some easy to mild stretches, play with the cats, snuggle with the cats," Lytle said. "It's very therapeutic and beneficial for the people who come."

Studies have shown pets can lower your blood pressure and stress levels, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

"It is fun," Cristal Rodriguez, a Chapel Hill resident, said. "It's fun to get the kitty's attention and have them crawl around while you're doing poses and they come up and rub against you."

In addition to the offering the unique class the studio is also working with the O'Malley Alley Cat Rescue of Tyler.

The studio provides a foster home setting to local cats who are looking for a forever home.

Lytle says the studio houses anywhere between eight to 10 cats. They also worked to place more than two dozen cats in homes since working with the rescue organization.

"It's been an incredibly awarding experience, something that you can feel good about giving back," Lytle said.
