Gladewater children's facility sued for negligence in the wake of two boy's deaths

The mothers of two boys filed lawsuits alleging the Truman W. Smith Children's Care Center caused the deaths of the sons due to negligence, the Longview News Journal reports.

GLADEWATER, Texas — The mothers of two special needs children who died at a Gladewater children's facility are filing negligence suits against the facility, the Longview News Journal reports.

According to the newspaper, the lawsuits, filed in Upshur County, alleges both children were severely injured at Truman W. Smith Children's Care Center two years ago. Both children later died.

The newspaper reports the children, both boys, were 7 years old and 2 years old when they died.

The mothers are seeking damages for past medical, funeral and burial expenses, according to Longview News Journal. The lawsuits are also seeking past and future financial and companionship losses as well as mental anguish and pre- and post-judgement interest.
