AUSTIN, Texas — The University Interscholastic League (UIL) has extended its suspension of all sports through May 3 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The league says the earliest contests could resume is Monday, May 4. While there will be no officially sanctioned games, UIL will allow schools to do a reasonable amount of rehearsals and practices. However schools are urged to be flexible with local, state and federal regulations.

“We are working diligently on contingency plans to conduct state championships in each of the activities that have been suspended,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “While the immediate future is unclear, we are committed to providing these much-desired activities to all Texas students and  will prepare for all possible outcomes , including extended school closures.”

The UIL will continue to provide updates through the the UIL website and social media accounts.
