Hundreds participate in annual Beauty and the Beast Bicycle tour

BULLARD (KYTX) - For the 26th straight year the "Beauty and the Beast Freedom Ride" is a success. Nearly 800 bike riders participated in the annual fundraising event today in Bullard.

CBS 19's Katiera Winfrey spoke to riders, and explains how this ride has benefited dozens of agencies throughout the years.

Taking a bike ride on a nice cool day is good by itself, but's it even better when it's for a good cause.

"It really gets to my heart when I see this man y people out here to support," said Rick Houack who participated in the race.

The name beauty comes from the scenery and the beast comes from eh tough hills rider have to tackle.

"If you really like the rolly heels east Texas is good for those, we have a lot of them in this ride," said Andy Kathan.

Every year organizations are chosen, and the proceeds from the race go to them. This year's proceeds will benefit the Texas Wounded Warriors and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

"Awww man this is awesome anything we can do for the Wounded Warriors or other organizations by just riding a bicycle is awesome."

Houack is an army veteran, his son is currently serving.

"It really gets to my heart when I see this many people out here to support," he said.

Around 800 riders showed up at the KE Bushman's winery celebration center for the ride. The top riders hit took on the 67 mile course.

Other route options were to take the 52, 36, 24 or 12 mile route...the 12 mile route is the one audrianna Hugo is taking with her grandpa...

"It's just really cool cause I get to go on such a trip."

In addition to the money going towards "Wounded Warriors" and the "Leukemia and Lymphoma Society".

The top three finishers in both the women's and men's categories also won some cash.
