Jacksonville police honor fallen officers

Jacksonville Police Department expressed their gratitude to those officers for the sacrifice they made to protect the community.

JACKSONVILLE, Texas — The Jacksonville Police Department continued National Police Week by holding a memorial service for fallen officers.

The service was held to keep the memory alive of officers who have died serving their community.

The Jacksonville Police Department Honor Guard recognized officers who were killed in the line of duty in the past years.

These officers were honored by numerous speakers including Jacksonville's Police Chief Andrew Hawkes.

"Law enforcement is a tough job and that ultimately some of us will die in our career serving and protecting the community that we love," Hawkes said.

Hawkes says that it is important to support your local police force. Also, to remember these officers and their families are just like everyone else and need support when losing a loved one.

The Jacksonville Police Department Honor Guard recognized the four Jacksonville Police Department Officers who were killed in the line of duty in the past years:

  • City Marshall - William A. Clark
  • Night Patrolman - Harry Floyd Hooker
  • Patrol Officer - Roscoe Lee
  • Patrol Officer - Randy J. Zimmerman

The Honor Guard also recognized the 176 officers including K-9's nationwide who were killed in the line of duty within the past year, which includes 17 Texas police officers and six police officers in 2019.
