John Tyler High School theater students perform celebrated monologues during Black History program

After excelling during an August Wilson monologue competition, the students will get the chance to perform during the school's Black History program.

TYLER, Texas — Happy, sad, anger, love are all emotions you would typically find in a high school class.

For a group of theater students at John Tyler High School, they are emotions they've come to excel at conveying during their performances.

"I get on stage and I'm not even nervous," Xavier "Apple" Williams, s student, said.

There's so much to theater that people don't see, that they won't see until they come and watch," he said.

In January Williams, along with five other students, participated in the August Wilson monologue competition, where they placed at the state level.

Precious Gregory and Aaron Rouse, two students within the group, placed as alternates for the national competition.

The students will perform their pieces during the school's Black History program on Feb. 28 at John Tyler High School.
