Sheriff's office says deadly Upshur County drive-by caused by drug deal gone bad

UPSHUR COUNTY, Texas — The Upshur County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide near Big Sandy.

According to the UCSO, deputies responded to a shooting call in the 400 block of Juniper Road at about 10:50 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies found 18-year-old Jonathon Christopher Johnson with a gunshot wound.

He was quickly transported to the hospital where he died.

The sheriff's office says the shooting was caused by a drug deal that had gone bad.

Authorities have not announced a suspect in the case. However, the case is being forwarded to a grand jury for review.
