1962 Thunderbird to be raffled off for Crisis Center

A 1962 Thunderbird could be yours for the price of a raffle ticket, and it's all for a good cause!

TYLER — Locals are raising money for a good cause during an annual event for the East Texas Crisis Center.

A 1962 Thunderbird is being raffled off will all proceeds going to programs at the Crisis Center.

The classic could be yours for just $10, or more depending on how many raffle tickets you purchase.

David Irwin with Tyler Ford has donated a car to be raffled off for the last 16 years.

"It brings in anywhere from $67,000 to $100,000 in one evening,” Lana Peacock with the East Texas Crisis Center said.

That amount is just at the kickoff event.

"At the end of last year we had raise $1.3 million on just the raffle car,” Irwin said.

The money goes to help the crisis center maintain their programs for the women and children they help.

"Specifically, one of the programs is for therapy for families, and because of violence in the home the family can be so disconnected,” Peacock said.

And even though there is a cool car involved, that's not the point of this raffle.

"This is what we raise the money for. I mean the car is neat, somebody will win it and they'll enjoy it, but the bottom line is you buy a ticket as a donation to the Crisis Center to help some people deal with a problem that is most don't even want to acknowledge exists,” Irwin said.

Tickets can be purchased online here.

They can also be purchased at several locations around town:

  • Tyler Ford
  • Quicklane Auto & Tire
  • Traditions
