A nursing home christmas wish come true

90-year old Bill Stanley is in hospice care at the Colonial Nursing Center in Lindale. When it came time to tell the staff what he wanted for Christmas, he didn't say socks, or a new sweater or anything like that. He just wanted a last date with his wife Nelda. So the center and community members got together and made it happen.

Lindale — It was a Christmas wish that admittedly, even Bill Stanley didn't remembering making. The 90-year old World War II veteran and lifelong engineer is in hospice care at the Colonial Nursing Center and he told Susan Williams with the home that he wanted to take his wife on a last date for Christmas.

Williams got to work. Lindale floral provided a corsage and boutonniere. Posado's paid for dinner. And a limousine was provided. Bill's wish came true.

His wife Nelda said Bill has always been romantic during the course of their 17-year marriage and does nice stuff for her on Christmas and her birthday each year. She said that she wasn't surprised by him requesting the date, but she was certainly surprised when it was announced during the center's Christmas party.
