AMBER Alert canceled after Texas infant found safe in North Carolina

Authorities in Kemp were initially searching for a missing 13-week-old who was reportedly abducted by his mother while he is in the custody of CPS.

KEMP, Texas — An AMBER Alert has been canceled after a Texas infant was found safe in North Carolina.

Authorities in Kemp were initially searching for a missing 13-week-old who was reportedly abducted by his mother while he is in the custody of Child Protective Service.

The Kemp Police Department says before being found, the baby was taken from a local domestic violence shelter for abused or recovering mothers and their children by his mother Abigail Margaret Williams, 22.

At around 2 a.m., Friday morning, Williams and her son were located in North Carolina.

"With assistance from the Fayetteville North Carolina Police Department, Williams and her infant son was picked up at a bus terminal in town," the KPD said. "Investigators were able to track Williams travel from when she left the shelter, first by traveling to Dallas then headed out east (presumably on a bus) to North Carolina. Williams was taken into custody on a outstanding warrant for Interfering with Child Custody regarding this incident. She is being held there until extradition can be made back to Texas.  The child who is safe and sound is currently being kept in North Carolina’s Children’s Protective Services until Texas CPS can make arrangements to bring the child back to Smith County.
