Bethesda Health Clinic needs votes

Bethesda Health Clinic is in the top 200 for the State Farm, Neighborhood Assist Community Improvement and could win $25,000.

TYLER — State Farm's Neighborhood Assist Community Improvement grant will give 40 organizations with the most votes $25,000. Bethesda Health Clinic is the only organization from East Texas in the top 200.

The campaign wants to help non-profits that are making a difference in their communities.

"Safety, community development and education and they try to look for unique community organizations that really fill a need in these local communities," Gina Wilken, State Farm public affairs specialist, said.

Bethesda provides medical and dental care for the working insured and under insured in East Texas.

"And so we're just the only place like this in Tyler," Megan Riaz, Bethesda Health Clinic marketing coordinator, said.

Riaz said if the clinic wins, the money will be spread across several areas within the organization.

"It'll go toward providing a nutrition counseling, wellness education, specialty care and then we have medication assistance program and actually we give away about $2 million a year in medication and a large quantity of that is insulin," Riaz said.

Voting closes Aug. 24 and the winners will be announced Sept. 25.
